Lion John Harrison has organised the annual Lions summer lunch for a number of years. This year, with Covid restrictions in place, John took a novel approach and organised a highly successful ‘Virtual Summer Lunch’ where members and other supporters took part in the event in their own homes. Lion Pauline Lowry assisted by setting up an online donation page and raffle. The event enabled our new President Di Keal to present a cheque for £2000 to Yorkshire Air Ambulance team member, Kevin Hutchinson. Kevin explained that the Covid 19 means that many of their usual fundraising activities were cancelled, and that will daily running costs of £12,000, our support was very welcome. YAA are often called to assist at road traffic collisions, and in the rural areas surrounding Malton and Norton they are also asked to provide help to horse riders and agricultural workers who are involved in accidents. We’d like to thank everyone who donated to the Virtual Lunch appeal and enabled us to continue our support to this very worthwhile charity.
President Di and the trustees are meeting the challenge of planning an event schedule for this year. With guidance constantly changing, Malton, Norton and District Lions are aiming to run as many events as possible within government advice. Details of these will be made available in the near future.
