The annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of Malton and Norton was arranged a little later this year – it actually fell on Valentine’s Day. Nevertheless, those who attended joined in the Christmas spirit, and pulled their crackers with enthusiasm! Over 120 Malton and Norton residents were either collected by Lions members, or made their own way to the festivities at Malton and Norton Rugby Club. An expertly prepared meal was served by Janet Fairweather and her team, from Willow Farm, Butterwick. The fayre included a tasty tomato and basil soup, a traditional turkey roast and scrumptious dessert, then served by the willing, if not silver serviced trained, Lions volunteers.
The meal was followed by a live music session, where Steve Cassidy played guitar and our visitors joined in with some well-known songs. Next on the line up were a few games of Bingo with Eamonn Wall expertly calling, and almost every guest carefully checking their cards in hope of a line or a house. Finally, a lively raffle concluded the evening’s events with many prizes on offer.
